What is this Scholarship for?

The Salt Creek Scholarship is a charitable fund intended to assist local country kids get to university. It assists specifically with accommodation costs payable directly to the college accommodation of their choice.

What are the criteria for eligibility?

Complete Application to Salt Creek Scholarship Committee by the due date*, the year prior to the desired study year.

Availability to attend interview at an agreed time and venue in early January of the desired study year.

Provide proof of offer of university/residency for the desired study year.

How will I know if I have won the Scholarship?

The Salt Creek Scholarship Committee will contact all applicants via email to advise them if they have qualified for an interview or not in early January of the desired study year. Further to the interviews and upon receipt of all relevant documentation, the successful applicant will be contacted directly by phone and with written confirmation by email to be advised of their selection late January prior to university commencing in the desired study year.

I know that I want to defer/take a gap year. Can I receive apply for and receive the Scholarship to be used the following year?

Yes, you can receive and accept an offer, provided you are accepted into a course of your choice, you can then defer this place as long as you are deferring your study at the same time. Complete the Extension/deferral application template to apply.

If during my scholarship funded studies I decide I wish to extend my course or defer, is this possible?

Yes, you may extend/defer your studies and associated accommodation scholarship. Complete the Extension/deferral application template to apply.

I finished school last year. Can I still apply for the Scholarship?

Yes, we will accept applications for first-time tertiary course applicants irrespective of when they completed their final school year, provided it was in the last 5 years.

I have already completed a tertiary degree. Can I apply for the Scholarship?

No, the Salt Creek Scholarship is for high school leavers and first-time tertiary course applicants.

Can I retain my Scholarship if I change courses?

Possibly, but not definitely. This will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and decided at the discretion of the Committee.

Can I lose my Scholarship?

Yes. The expectations of the Scholarship board are that you maintain a ‘pass’ grade in all subjects. If you are failing a subject/subjects, the board reserves the right to withdraw the Scholarship.

If the student withdraws from the course, the board reserves the right to withdraw the Scholarship.

Can I use the Scholarship funds for purposes other than my accommodation?

No. The Scholarship funds are paid directly to the registrar of the college at your chosen university.

Can I use the Scholarship funds for accommodation in a share house other than a university college?

No, the student does not have access to the funds as they are paid directly to the registrar of the college at your chosen university.

What is the due date for applications?

To be considered for the Salt Creek Scholarship, applicants must complete and submit their application by the due date.*

What is the value of the Scholarship?

The Scholarship awarded to the successful applicant is valued at $30,000AUS** in total (not per annum) spread out over the duration of the selected course at the discretion of the Committee

What course can I study?

The course to be undertaken under the Scholarship will be proposed by the applicant and approved by the Committee.

Who can apply?

The Salt Creek Scholarship is open to any Australian / NZ residents or a student holding an Australian Permanent Resident Visa.

I live in ? – can I apply?

The applicant needs to be a resident of Victoria’s Western District in Australia.

 

*A completed application is when an applicant has completed the application form and submitted via email at info@saltcreekscholarship.com.au with relevant attached documents OR via the online application form.
